Throwback Thursday - Qunicy Jones and Patti Austin- Razzmatazz

To quote fellow #MusicHead, Chudney Mason ( of Loop That Bish Radio), "Yaasssssss." "Q" does it again....He knows talent, and the marriage of him and any super talented singer, equals a match made in heaven. In my opinion, Patti Austin is probably one of the most underrated vocal divas of her time....and it shows in this clip here. I like the live version better than the recording....and that is never usually the case. Her vocal delivery is impeccable- the way she attacks the notes with equal parts grace and power. Just about every note is flawless. The groove is so good that "Q" has to get up from his piano and start dancing near the end of the clip. The only reason that I can think of as to why she wasn't more well known, was because of the time that she came out. She may have been victim to the "Martha Wash Syndrome". You know, where the record company tells an artist, "We love how you sound, just not how you look." It was the early 80's, and back then, "thin" was "in;" and because she didn't fit a certain physical shape, she may not have been promoted as much as she should have been....But boy, could that chile' blow....
