Discussion of the Week: How Important is Image To Music? Especially To A New Artist's Career?
Let's face it....In the music industry, image is everything. As an artist- especially, a new artist- the record company wants to have control over all aspects of your career...The way you look, the way you sound, even the way you communicate in public. If they can't have that, the deem you "un-marketable," because they can't place you in a cookie-cutter box. I recently read an article about Bruno Mars, who was signed, and then DROPPED from Motown back in 2004, because he was deemed "un-marketable." I bet their kicking themselves for that one....especially after seeing last month's Super Bowl Performance.
Believe it or not, I think that a shift is coming about in music, as a whole. I think people are starting to get tired of the same, old "cookie-cutter" material, and are starting to demand more talented artistry from performers. The next wave of is coming soon.
