TBT- Bobby Brown
1989….Whew, chile, don’t get me started. What dates this video more….The old subway signs? That God-awful "Gumby" (and yes, people really used to rock that) haircut? The completely random cameos by then-A list celebrities that no one in this generation has ever even heard of? If you look closely, you’ll notice that even now-Republican Presidential Candidate, Donald Trump (isn’t that scary to say) can brag about the time that he’s been in a New Jack Swing video. Or maybe it’s just simply the fact that Bobby Brown actually appears to be “hip and cool.”
In either case, this video is “ancient archival footage” of the remnants of old school New York; much like its counterpart, Ghostbusters II. Both the video and the movie accurately capture what was left of old, filthy, “pre-Giuliani” New York City. Its seeing videos like this as a child, that made me want to move to NY in the first place….I know, “goals”….Can you imagine just going about your daily life and seeing Bobby Brown, of all people just pop up out of nowhere, doing The Running Man on a billboard…or seeing Slimer roam about, terrorizing the streets. Now who wouldn’t want to live in a city like that?
