TBT- Luther Vandross

TBT- Luther Vandross

You don’t hear this song all that often anymore, but if you walked the earth back in the early 90’s, you more than likely heard this song so much, you got royally tired of it. It was everywhere: on the radio, in commercials, in weddings….you just couldn't escape it. For a period of about 2 years, this song was on straight overkill. It’s a shame too, cause it really is a rather gorgeous song. It is one of those songs that was written with the intent to be played at everyone’s wedding for the next few years afterward….and it did- that is, until a few years later when “I Will Always Love You” kinda stole its thunder.

"Here and Now" would be one of the biggest hits of “Loofa’s” career, and pretty much solidified his place as the "King of Smooth R&B" at the time. It's songs like this that unfortunately appeal to my more “sappier” nature….part of the curse of being a Pisces. Here’s how you know this song was big stuff: Oprah bought him on her show just to sing it to her mostly female audience. Oprah didn’t have musical guests on her show like that back then….and if she did, it was only in those instances where a particular song has struck a nerve in the hearts of millions of swooning, "lovestruck" women……ala James Blunt’s “Beautiful,” or John Legend’s “Ordinary People.”

Enjoy this trip back in time to 1990….
