TBT- Jane Child

TBT- Jane Child

Oh yeah! I was all about this song in 1989. So what, if I was only 6….something about it spoke to me. Plus her look was a mixture of both scary and cool to me all at the same time….the spiky hair, the braids, and the wicked nose ring chain. I had never seen anything like that, probably before or since. I remember thinking, “If this was any indication of what 90’s music was to sound like, I was all in.” I often wondered why her career never went any further. I mean, come on, she played ALL of the instruments on her self-titled debut- a rare feat for a new artist on a major label. I can only imagine she must have gotten fed up with the industry as a whole, and dropped out of the public eye. True musicians and creative forces often have a hard time staying sane, without compromising integrity at the same time. She didn’t really look like anyone else out at the time, and didn’t fit in any particular box. I don’t think the world was really ready for independent female musicians (with the exception of maybe Shelia E) dominating the pop music scene back in 1989.

Enjoy this trip back in time….
