Tanya's Picks- Mar 4th

What's Goin On, Musicheads! Thanks for joining me back here for another week of Tanya's Picks! In case you didn't know, I'm holding an iTunes Gift Card Giveaway for the month of March....so if you find some music on here that you like, be sure to put it on your "download list" for when you WIN the gift card....Anyways here's what's in constant rotation on my iPod for the week!

Talk about underrated for her time....Oleta Adams, who was often compared to Anita Baker (in terms of sheer vocal depth) released some really quality work back in the late 80's and early 90's. Her sound was always one that walked the line between jazz and R&B. This is from her 1990 album, Circle of One.

This is one of those songs that I've known for years, but never knew who sang it. And it's not lie I could ever figure out what they were saying...They're Canadian...The best I could do was hum the bass line, sounding like an idiot...lol...This is from their 1981 album, As Far As Siam.

Yeah, it doesn't get any better than this. I love when the tone of a voice, the quality of it simply makes a song go from audio to visual. Listening to Ella sing this tune so effortlessly, it feels like summertime, even now in the dead of winter. The riffs that her voice goes through are a perfect match for Satchmo's gruff, yet soulful tone. Singers, take note......

Public Service Announcement to little children? Nope, it's just Rick Springfield's and his clever play on words and meaning. 1-Hit Wonder, my behind...He had quite a few good songs that were actually hits back in the early 80's. What I like about his sound is that it is "good old-fashioned" rock n' roll..No pretense about it. This is from his 1982 album, Success Hasn't Spoiled Me Yet.

Ahh Thank You YouTube for helping me discover this gem. Otherwise, I would have never known that two of may favorite artists did such a cool song together. See this was on Stevie's 1987 Characters album....which has been out of print since forever....The other song that they did together was Just Good Friends, which was on Michael's Bad album that same year.

Well, there you have it...That's what's on my playlist for this week. What's on yours??

Until Next Time....
