Discussion of the Week: Do You Think That Macklemore Should Have Won Over Kendrick?

So unless you've been living under a rock for the last week, I'm sure you've heard how much of an uproar the internet is in over the fact that Macklemore's 2013 debut, The Heist won the Grammy for Best Rap Album over Kendrick Lamar's, Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City. Most fans believe that Kendrick was robbed of the win, and that they only reason that Macklemore won is because he's white. Macklemore even took to Instagram himself to openly express that even he felt that Kendrick deserved the award over him:

I think that was a pretty stand-up gesture. That's not something you see alot of celebrities do, especially in public. Now I can't say anything about Macklemore's The Heist cause I haven't heard the whole album, but I've heard  Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City, and it was AMAZING. The few songs that I've heard from Macklemore I've liked, and he is obviously very talented as an MC....enough to be nominated for the category, in the first place. My only question is this.....Why do folks ALWAYS have to play the race card? No doubt, there are instances where it is completely understandable to do so, but I don't think that this is one of them. The fact is that Macklemore won because he's a talented dude. Not saying that Kendrick isn't, if not more so, but in terms of sales- Macklemore's album had much more crossover appeal than Kendrick's.....and that counts BIG in terms of the Academy.  I bet the uproar wouldn't have been this big if say, Lil Wayne had won....and we all know he's trash...It's just that whenever a white rapper comes along, he automatically gets dissed by the Hip-Hop community as a whole, and has to work twice as hard to prove himself. Not all white rappers are Vanilla Ice, you know. Appreciate talent for what it is. That being said, I think that being nominated for Best Rap Album...on your 1st album, is only the sign of great things to come for both artists, but particularly for Kendrick, who will have his day in the spotlight, in terms of Grammy success- that fact will not be denied.

But enough about what I think, I wanna hear what you have to say......Post your thoughts in the comments below
